Apprenticeship supports city business growth plans
Recruiting the right person, with the right skills set, aptitude and attitude was key for the next stage in the growth plans for successful Peterboroughbased IT business, One Source Communications Ltd, based in Lynch Wood.
Pav Patel, Managing Director, said “Since the business was established three years ago, it has gone from strength to strength. To grow further, we needed to expand our workforce to support our strategy. “
Pav phoned the business team at City College Peterborough and decided to take on an apprentice for the first time.
“The whole process was easy.” said Pav.
“They advertised the job and shortlisted the applicants for us to interview”.
A few weeks later, Garian Swann ( 17) joined the team and has already made a good impression on clients and team.
Garian moved to Peterborough recently, having left college armed with 11 GCSEs, a double AA level award and BTech Level 2. Although he had applied for a range of positions to get into the job market, he always wanted to develop a career in IT.
Garian said: “I submitted my CV to the college and they arranged the interview for me. I was delighted when I was offered the apprenticeship placement as it will help me to gain practical workbased experience whilst I continue with my studies and work towards an IT apprenticeship qualification
Pav has further plans to expand his business and build his workforce.
“Providing excellent customer service is key to our success. Taking on an apprentice has helped us to sup port a young person to develop their skills in a commercial environment, whilst they develop and grow and work towards a recognized qualification.
“The whole process has been very smooth and seamless and the stories of lots of paperwork being involved is a myth.
“The service from City College Peterborough has been excellent and I Iook forward to recruiting our next apprentice to support our growth strategy in the next 12 months. ”
