Aleading manufacturing company in the Peterborough area has been judged to be top of its class.

Solo Cup Europe, based in St Peter’s Industrial Park, in Huntingdon, has won the prestigious Food service Packaging Association ( FPA) Manufacturer of the Year Award 2013.

The Award is voted for by FPA distributor members who rank manufacturers according to set of strict criteria including customer service and product quality.

It was presented at a gala dinner for more than 400 FPA members and their guests at The Grand Hotel in Brighton, where Solo were selected over tough competition from a number of competitor businesses.

Managing director Tony Waters and the team from So- lo Cup Europe collected the Award.

Afterwards, Mr Waters said: “We are particularly pleased to have won this award as it is voted for by organisations that we do business with.

“It’s very positive for Solo to be recognised in this way against strong competition.

“It’s also great recognition for all our teams, who have worked hard over recent months to deliver high quality products and the best of customer service.”

The firm manufactures a range of disposable food service packaging and during 2010- 2011 increased its turn over by 5.4 per cent.

It is keen to stress its eco-credientials and over the same period reduced its green house gas emissions by 2.9 per cent covering the whole business including office and warehouse areas.

Better management of its waste output also helped increased profitability by £ 100,000 over the same period.
