Ricky is ranked number one after masterful performanc­e

City athletes were celebratin­g a British title treble at the weekend. Nene Valley Harriers pair Ricky Huskisson and Ken Baker and Peterborou­gh Athletic Club’s Karl Eve all came out on top when competing in the British Masters Indoor Championsh­ips at Lee Valley.

Sprinter Huskisson raced to victory in the Over 50200m, Baker won the Over 35 shot and Eve took the Over 50 high jump honours.

Huskisson won his heat in 25.16 seconds and then in the final he really flew round the boards and his winning time of 24.8 was the fastest indoors in his age group in the UK this year.

Baker produced a best of 13.10m to win the shot and Eve cleared 1.60m in his high jump event.

Tim Needham came close to making it a Nene Valley treble when he claimed runners- up honours in the Over 60 weight with 11.99m.

Charlotte Taylor was the star local turn when the area’s topcross- country runners took part in the UK InterCount­ies Championsh­ips in Birmingham on Saturday.

Nene Valley Harrier Taylor was never far from the front in the Women’s Under 20 race- at one stage she actually led the way - and finished a cracking eighth out of a class fieldof145 runners.

Harriers also had high hopes of Alex Hampson finishing in the top 10 in the Under 15 Boys race after his win in the Southern Championsh­ips. But unfortunat­ely he had to withdraw early with a foot injury when well placed.

Overall Nene Valley Harriers had 23 athletes representi­ng their county.

Stamford- based Aaron Scott, running for Notts AC, was 37th in the senior men’s race.

Other local placings: Under 20 Men: 164 Stuart Haw ( PAC). Under 17 Boys: 237 Joe Howells ( Bourne); 247 Joel Reed ( PAC).

Under 15 Boys: 240 Liam Ward ( PAC); 273 Cameron Everist ( Bourne).

Under 13 Boys: 109 Alexander Bevan ( PAC).

Philippa Taylor and Josh Lunn both ran in the Cambridge Half- Marathon 24 hours after their exploits in Birmingham.

And Taylor did well to finish fourth in the ladies race in a time of 80.29, which was good enough for 48th pl ace overall.

Lunn completed the race in 85th place in 83.41.

Paul Lunn of Nene Valley was 18th in 76.41 and was second Over 40 vet while clubmate Sean Beard was 52nd in 80.44 and was third Over 45 vet.

Chris Mooney of Nene Valley Harriers finished 31st in the Milton Kaynes Half- Marathon in a time of 79.44. He was second in the Over 45 category.
