Lowbridge braves bitter winds to finish on a high

- by Ken Wade ANGLING CORRESPONDENT

Over the past couple of years JVAC have without doubt been one of the biggest clubs in the area regularly attracting more anglers to their matches than the open events.

Yet on Sunday even they saw many of their regular anglers giving it a miss as the bitter easterly winds blasted across the Decoy Lakes.

Match organiser Mike King wisely used two lakes, Oak and Yew and made sure everyone had back wind but even with the wind off their backs several still struggled for bites.

The main prize list does still look surprisingly good though. Top rod on the Oak Pool with a fine 93lb 110z was Ernie Low bridge. Hedrewpeg 20 and took a net of carp to six poundso n the pole with pellet on the hook.

That was well clear of runner- up Nick Carlton with 55lb 6oz followed by Will Hadleyon 33lb 6oz.

It was tough going on the Yew Pool. Top rod was Lee Kendal, who fished a small mag got feeder onpeg17, netting some good fish for 52lb 5oz. Shaun Coaten came in second offthe next peg with 28lb 15oz again on a maggot feeder followed by Mike Mitchell on 26lb 15oz.

On a bitterly cold day Allsorts AC managed to get a good few of their anglers out onto Factory Bank. First place on the day went to Steve Stones with 5lb 10oz, all caught on the waggler with red maggot.

Runner- up was Keith Morgan with 5lb 8oz and third with 5lb 5oz was Pete Molesworth Senior.

The last big match of the 2012/ 13 season took place on Sunday and despite the return to wintry weather there was still a very good turn out on the Old Nene for the March Open.

It was fished through the town and also out onto the slightly deeper bypass section.

While there were some good roach weights taken through the town it was the bypass area that produced the top two with Bourne rod Phil Chesterton out in front with 15lb 5oz. He caught two good tench, a string of perch, topped off with several big rudd for 15lb 12oz.

Runner- up was Alan Lemmon on 13lb 2oz and third Josh Pace on 13lb 13oz.
