Two go for title trebles at Stamford

Fiona Richardson and Nick Wilkie bid for title hat- tricks this Sunday when the Northants Bowling Federation men’s and women’s county indoor finals are staged at Stamford IBC.

The county winners will go forward to represent Northant sat the national championsh­ips being held once again at Newark from April 22- 28.

City bowler Catherine Popple, who now plays indoors at the City of Ely club, was in the England women’s team that comfortabl­y retained the British Isles internatio­nal series at Stanley with wins over Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

Meanwhile, local bowlers Nicky Brett, who also plays out of the Ely club, and Spalding’s Martin Spencer are in the England men’s team bidding to wrest the British Isles title from Scotland’s grasp at Stanley this weekend.

The Peterborou­gh men’s senior team have put together back- to- back 10- 0 wins in the Cambs League for thefirst time this season, defeating St Neots B 72- 54 and Wisbech B 118- 34.

The win over Wisbech B included a 42- 8 victory for the rink of Les Sharp, Peter Harvey, Mick Linnell and Rod Maplethorp­e that included a maximum eight count.
