A burglary victim has spoken of her anger after the thief was able to return to Peterborough just days after being deported. Alexandra Kalandrani (26) walked into her Eastfield Road home to find Marius Siurkus, (32) and Mantas Pronckus, (27) rifling through her possessions.

Both men were caught, and Pronckus, of Swanspool, Peterborough was jailed for two years, while Siurkus, of St Martins Street, Peterborough was locked up for one year.

Both men were released from their sentence early to be deported back to Lithuania - but both returned to the UK, offending again.

On Wednesday August 13, officers identified Siurkus as a suspect in an assault and making threats to kill case. The offences were alleged to have happened on August 9.

PC Sye Roberts and PC James Marshall tracked him down to an address in St Martin’s Street, Peterborough.

He will now serve the remainder of his sentence in the UK.

Miss Kalandrani said: “Hearing they had been released early and returned to the country made me angry.

“I don’t know how the system works, but it does not feel like we have justice. It didn’t seem like they were getting any sort of punishment.

“The sentence should be served in the country the crime is committed.”

While arresting Siurkus on August 15, the officers noticed that floorboards at the property had been lifted and further investigation revealed the jewellery that had been stolen in the Eastfield Road burglary.

Alexandra, who lives with her sister, said: “Since the burglary our mum has died, and a lot of the stolen jewellery was hers. I got the call that some of the jewellery had been found on Monday. I screamed and cried, because it has been a difficult few months.

“We didn’t think we were going to get any of the jewellery back, so it is a relief.

“One piece we have not recovered is a silver pendant, which was given to my mother by her dad 50 years ago. It is from Egypt and means a lot to us, and we would really like it back.”
