Woman is car park nuisance
Has threatened to jump on 14 occasions
A woman who has threatened to jump from the top of car parks in Peterborough 14 times in four months has appeared in court. Philippa Fallowfield ( 23) climbed to the top of Northminster Car Park in the city centre on Friday night as revellers enjoyed an evening out in the city.
Police had to close part of the surrounding area while trained negotiators spoke to Fallowfield to bring her down safely.
Officers were called to the incident at 11.30pm, and were finally able to bring her to safety at 1.30am.
On Monday she appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court where she was pleaded guilty to one count of causing a public nuisance.
The court was told she had climbed to the top of another car park in the city the previous day.
John Masters, prosecuting, said: “The defendant is well known to police officers, and they have received many calls from her saying she is at the top of a car park.
On August 16 the city centre was very busy with people out socialising.
“She was shouting and swearing, and people in the street were stopping, and appeared distressed by what was going on.
“She was also abusive to staff when she was taken to hospital by police.
“Since May 15 this year there have been about 14 calls regarding the defendant being at a car park.”
Simon Millburn, defending, said: “I am requesting that reports should be carried out in this case. She clearly has issues surrounding depression and bereavement.”
District Judge Ken Sheraton agreed, and told Fallowfield she faced serious charges that could result in a prison sentence.
He said he was unable to consider granting bail because Fallowfield said she had no fixed address.
The case was adjourned until September 8.
