Macmillan’s appeal for help to takeover the city for a day
A leading charity is hoping to encourage hundreds of volunteers in Peterborough to rise up and help raise valuable funds.
The plea comes from officials of the Macmillan Cancer Support is calling for volunteers from in and around Peterborough to help with the city’s takeover event.
The takeover will take place on September 17.
Macmillan is looking for both groups and individuals who can spare as much time as possible from just an hour to the whole day.
There are multiple opportunities to help with this event.
A spokeswoman said: “We need volunteers ready to hold collection buckets as well as handing out flyers to promote the virtual campaign also active that day.
“Also we are looking for people to promote the virtual campaign via social media throughout the day to gain more attention.”
Macmillan s upports people who are affected by cancer in multiple different ways.
These include Macmillan nurses and other trained professionals in hospitals and through providing individuals and their families’ grants to help with travel ex- penses and the heating bills.
The spokeswoman said that the money raised will go to help cancer patients and their families in the Peterborough area.
Currently Macmillan Cancer Support offers an information centre and an information manager within Peterborough City Hospital.
Last year £ 28,645 was granted to 99 people in Peterborough.
The spokeswoman said: “All the money collected can ensure that as many people as possible can be helped in Peterborough.
On the takeover day, Macmillan staff will be hosting various events around the city, with street collections and collections at the Dobbies garden centre as well as at other locations.
