A bride who met her husbandto-be at a running club jogged to her own wedding and even got married in her running gear. Sharon and Chris Hodgkin tied the knot at the Duke of Bedford Hall in Thorney.

But this was no ordinary wedding as the bride ran all the way from her house in New Road, Whittlesey, to the venue.

Sharon (40) met Chris (44) at Thorney Running Club and the pair got engaged at last year’s Great Eastern Run.

Sharon had finished her race and went back to support her partner when he went down on one knee and pulled out a ring which he had taped to his shorts.

To celebrate the couple’s wedding, Thorney Running Club even left some surprises for Sharon during her near six-mile jog to the ceremony including champagne and chocolates and a picnic.

Sharon wore white running gear for the wedding before changing again into a normal dress for the evening reception.

Sharon’s sister Tracey Basefield says the couple met at Andy Harding’s circuits training classes at the running club.“Sharon is very, very passionate about running and she tries to go for a run at least every other day. She loves it,” said Tracey.

“The run to the wedding was not strenuous, it was just a casual run.

“When Chris proposed at the Great Eastern Run the crowd went crazy and a lot of the runners were patting him on the back.”

To complete the running theme, the wedding cake was designed to look like the couple running through a finishing line.

Sharon and Chris are planning to run this year’s Great Eastern Run again.
