Birch a runner-up at Ferry Meadows and Thorney

Nene Valley Harrier Adam Birch twice had to settle for second best in the two latest local road races.
In the Barney Memorial 5k race at Ferry Meadows last Wednesday, held in memory of Nene Valley Harriers stalwart Mike Barnsdale, Birch was second behind Cambridge & Coleridge ace Sullivan Smith, who took the honours in 15mins 21secs.
Birch clocked 15.52 with Nene Valley youngster Jake Richardson third in 16.12.
Then on Sunday, Birch was again runner-up, this time finishing a close second to Peterborough 5k Grand Prix Series champion Aaron Scott in the Thorney 5.
Stamford- based Scott, running for Notts AC, crossed the line in 26.45 with Birch finishing in 26.47.
First lady home at Ferry Meadows was Nene Valley’s Grace Mullins in 29th posi- tion in 18:33.
