Brilliant, just brilliant Swanny, but I suggest you stop digging now. You’re right up there with that other pompous tweeter, Piers Morgan. Neither of you have the guts to admit you were wrong about Alistair Cook, Ian Bell, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad. Or the England cricket team in general.

Fenland Cricketer So according to you - ‘Chelsea have just signed Eliaquim Mangala for £ 35 million.” Have they? He signed for Manchester City less than 48 hours previously. Lazy journalism taken to a new dimension. Please check your facts before you write about Chelsea.

Glinton Blue Things to dread in the Premier League this season should include you getting your facts wrong. Chelsea did well to sign Mangala so soon after he signed for Manchester City.

Paul Blackmore Looks like Manchester United will be the gift that keeps on giving after all. Like you I thought they would be top of the Premier League by the end of September given their easy-looking start to the season. But then I saw their teamsheet for the Swansea match and I realised how bad they were going to be again. Nobodies and has-beens galore. Happy days are here to stay for a bit longer yet. Dave Barker (Anfield Dave). You missed off rubbish refs in your round-up of things to dread in the Premier League. Already a Spurs player was wrongly sent off and Diego Costa was wrongly awarded a yellow card for diving.

Andrew Barker I’ve seen some great players in my time playing for, watching and reporting on Peterborough Town CC, but only the legend Ajaz Akhtar came close to the consistent all-round brilliance of Paul McMahon. The best players turn it on in the biggest games as McMahon did in the East Midlands Twenty/20 Finals last weekend. I try and like Match of the Day I really do, but one weekend into the new season and I’ve already series linked it on Sky Plus so I can watch it for the next nine months on fast forward. They will never tire of telling us the programme is 50 years old just as host Gary Lineker (above) will never tire of dropping his own career into as many conversations as possible. The fact that Leicester City are now in the top flight will only enhance the prospect of more presenter ego. As if his pointless interview with a manager/ player every week is not bad enough. I’d love to know exactly who decided that us fans want bland chat and obvious analysis by famous ex-players with no personality rather than more action from the games. Yet again Jose Mourinho has made a good decision. Thibaut Courtois (above) is a better goalkeeper than Peter Cech so he now has to play in all the games that matter for Chelsea. There is no room for sentiment in the Premier League. Courtois is so good he might make Gary Cahill look less of a donkey. The Blues might also take some beating this season and they might be decent to watch judging by their display at Burnley this week. New striker Diego Costa is not a good player technically, but he won’t have to be with Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard pulling the strings in midfield. Costa will be better than Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba so if he doesn’t bang in 20 goals this season I’ll start supporting Cambridge United.
