Fishery Final

by March rod Barry Mason won the two day Buttonhole Final with a perfect score at the weekend. Anglers had t o qual i f y throughout the year to fish this competition which saw a strong line-up for the weekend event.

On day one, Mason fished shallow to the island from unfancied peg 14 for 133lb and won the match by a mile on the day.

On the second day he drew peg 23 and fished towards the aerator for most of the match on the pole and feeder for 84lb and another section win.

He didn’t get it all his own way though as Tony Grigorjevs also had two sections wins, 72lb from peg four on day one and 104lb from peg six on day two. But he just missed out on the win on weight countback.

This fine result didn’t surprise many taking part as the fishery near Wisbech is becoming a firm favourite with match anglers across the area. COCK INN AC Cock Inn AC had a really good result on the Small Carp Lake at Kingsland Fishery on Sunday with the top 10 anglers all putting 100lb plus weights to the scales.

Top rod was Gary Sell, who fished close in on the feeder with sweetcorn to finish with a fine 171lb 1oz.

Runner-up was Mick Sidney with 160lb 12oz followed by Steve Smith on 152lb 10oz. GRAHAMS PONDS Local rod Stuart Redman was top rod in the Saturday open at Grahams Ponds near Huntingdon on Saturday.

Carp usually dominate the results but in this match 11lb was enough to take first place, a net of silvers taken on the pole with red maggot.

Runner-up was venue regular Ian Thornton with 10lb 6oz caught on luncheon meat followed by Jeremy Hoare on 8lb 6oz.

Later i n t he day a nd through the night the fishery held a charity night match which raised £ 180 for the Woodland Centre Cancer Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

First place went to Nigel Marshall on peg nine. He weighed in a mixed bag of silvers and carp for 23lb 8oz and was followed by Wayne Hinson on 16lb 7oz and Nick Oh-

lemann with 15lb 2oz. WEBB’S AC Float Fish Farm was the venue for the latest Webb’s AC match which saw Brian Ogden take the honours.

In blustery conditions he stuck it out on a Method feeder fishing hair-rigged pellet on the hook for 69lb 9oz.

Vince Hull came in second, using sweetcorn and luncheon meat to tempt 47lb 14oz to the net, followed by George Bates with 31lb 9oz. STEEL CITY OPEN There was a good turn-out on Ferry Meadows for the regular Sunday Steel City Open.

Anglers struggled in the high winds whipping across the lakes, but there were still bream to be had.

In fact the top two anglers went head to head on pegs 128 and 129 on the Overton Lake.

Roy Woodward won it, but only just, feeder fishing his way to 73lb of bream from peg 128. Then came Ian Biddett on 72lb followed by John Turner with 29lb.

Steel City will be holding another open on Sunday August 24 meeting at the Lakeside car park at 8am or contact Mick Smith on 07831 282257.
