£1 million is quite a gamble

-

Your views on Posh from www.peterboroughtoday. co.uk... On £1m bid for Luke James... A million quid for a 19 year-old Division Two player? That indeed is quite a gamble! Will he enhance the team straight away ? He would be some 19 year-old player if he did.

Poshin MK As he hasn’t scored all season the asking price should be falling.

voice of treason Unless at least 250k of the fee is add ons Hartlepool are taking the mickey.

Maiakaat He’s not worth £1 million. He’s playing in League Two.

This is a rubbish website. On Christian Burgess... I like what I saw of him against Sheffield United especially as he was thrown into the deep end.

oldposhgit He seems to have his head screwed on by getting a degree while making his way in football.

MrSteve On Posh 1, Sheffield United 2... How did we lose? Dominated the first-half, but we need a striker. I like Washington and Vassell, but they won’t score enough goals.

Leperus Leprechaun When and why did Posh start playing hoofball? I couldn’t believe how many balls were punted and wasted.

PosHgIt No need to panic. That first-half display was one of the best by a Posh team for a long time. Second-half was a complete polar opposite though as we were very poor. This team will improve and a play-off berth should be well within our grasp. On Posh 3, MK Dons 2... A bold team selection that paid off. Payne, Washington and Taylor were excellent.

GNAT With Britt Assombalonga we would have won by a country mile.

Writtle33 A thoroughly enjoyable, exciting game that Posh deserved to win. Fergie’s selection seemed strange, but ut paid off.

Posh on the Wash. Wow what a great team performance. Things are looking very promising this season.

franksposh Jack Baldwin believes Posh have pulled off a transfer coup by bringing centre-back Christian Burgess to London Road from Middlesbrough. The 22-year- old made his debut for Posh in Tuesday’s defeat at home to Sheffield United despite meeting his new team-mates just an hour before kick-off

Burgess had trained with Boro that morning before Posh had a bid accepted by the Championship club.

He initially signed on an emergency loan to enable him to be part of the squad against ‘The Blades’. He is expected to sign a four-year contract later this week.

And that will mean a reunion with Baldwin. The pair played regularly together when Burgess was on loan at Hartlepool for the whole of last season.

They only split up whenBaldwin left for Posh in a £500k move in January.

“The gaffer asked me about Christian last week,” Baldwin revealed. “He asked me what he was like as a player and a person and I spoke very highly of him. He’s a great character and he’ll be very good in the dressing room, but he’s also an excellent footballer.

“He’s big and good in the air, but he can also play. Middlesbrough don’t tend to take on bad players.

“We liked to play the ball Posh centre-back Gaby Zakuani has been named in a 37-man DR Congo squad for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

That squad will be trimmed down to 23 players by the end of August.

Zakuani played in the last African Cup of Nations competition in 2012.

Dr Congo have been given a tough qualifying group against Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Si- out from the back at Hartlepool and it’s the same here so Christian is sure to fit in.

“I’m also sure the manager has his own sources so my opinion probably didn’t count for a lot, but I’m pleased Chris- erra Leone.

The qualifiers start early next month, but Zakuani is currently struggling with a hamstring injury so would miss the opening games.

There are further matches in October and November which would clash with Posh matches.

Former Posh striker Britt Assombalonga is also in the squad. His father is a former DR Congo international. tian is here.”

Competition for places at the back will be huge, particularly when Baldwin and Gaby Zakuani return from injury next month.

Burgess was a member of Arsenal’s Academy, but took a break from professional football to gain a degree in history.

He had trials at West Ham and Spurs before moving to Boro. He made one competitive appearance for the club.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: “Christian has been on our radar for a while.

“He’s a strong defender, but he is also good in possession and he’s comfortable playing on either side of the defence.”
