Darts champion Wolfie is here for the beer... and so are thousands of others
The 37th year of the annual festival got underway on Tuesday with brewers coming from throughout the UK, and even two who flew in from Korea
Darts champion Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams was on hand to pull a pint as Peterborough’s popular beer festival got underway.
M ore than 4,000 people attended the opening day of this year’s Peterborough Beer Festival which saw over 20,000 pints pulled and supped.
It is the 37th year of the annual festival which takes place at The Embankment.
Both marquees were packed on the first day with vast numbers sampling beer offerings from all over the country including from the five popular brewery bars: Batemans, Adnams, Oakham, Camerons and Woodfordes.
Approximately 400 cask ales are currently on sale with one of the first to sell out being Funky Pigeon by Xtreme Ales. Other popular choices included the Oakham special Pint Please, Woodfordes Wherry and Blue Monkey BG Sips.
The overall winner for best beer was awarded to Nene Valley Brewery’s Bible Black.
Karl Simpson from the Campaign For Real Ale, which runs the event, said: “The weather has been kind so far with just a bit of coolness. This is actually perfect for keeping beer in tip-top condition.
“Visitors can expect a great pint!”
Two brewers taking part this week are Korean students Oh Do-Kyung and Chad Ho-Jung who have travelled all the way from Asia in conjunction with Iceni Brewery of Thetford.
“I dreamed to be part of a European beer festival for my beers. So I started what I called the ‘Ohdolbeer Project’ which is making a documentary film about my challenge from Korea to get to a beer festival,” said Do-Kyung.
“I tried to contact over 70 breweries around England, but nobody could help my project until Iceni Brewery answered me.”
