A win at Bretton Gate against Alford on Saturday (2.30pm) or Sunday at Thomas Deacon Academy (1pm) would clinch a return to Division One at the firts attempt for the city side.

Given their superior goal difference over third-placed Long Sutton, a point would also probably be enough to complete an outstanding season for City.

Manager Lawrie Sullivan said: “The girls have acquitted themselves well following the the disappointment of relegation last season.

“We lost three key players as well, but we have shown spirit, endeavour and passion.

“Sometimes we win ugly, but good sides often do that and we are a good side.”

One such ugly win was achived last weekend when St Neots were pipped 2-1 at Bretton Gate.

Teenage hotshot Tierney Augustine opened the scoring in the first minute and added a second early in the secondhalf after fine work from Lyn Tancred and Claire Steels before the visitors replied with 10 minutes to go.

Once promotion is secured City can concentratre on a title battle with Spalding. The teams are due to meet at Bret- ton Gate on March 14.

Spalding are two points clear at the top and sealed their own promotion l ast weekend with a 3-0 win at Cambridge Nomads. Kelly Tuplin, Kelly Slator and Katie Gray scored the goals.

City of Peterborough men are determined to enjoy the rest of the Premier A Division season as they battle to claim a top-half finish.

They took part in a classy, exciting encounter last weekend when drawing 1-1 with title-chasing Cambridge University at Bretton Gate.

Sam Anderson scored City’s equaliser in the secondhalf and the home side were denied victory by a brilliant late block by a University defender as Ross Ambler looked set to score from close range.

City have another potential humdinger at Bretton Gate this Saturday (1pm) when pro- motion contenders St Albans are the visitors.

St Albans are third in the table, but just one point off top spot.

The inevitable relegation from the Premier A Division of Wisbech Town is all but confirmed after their 14-1 loss at high-flying Harleston.

Wisbech have lost all 18 of their top-flight fixtures and the first goal scored by Harleston last weekend was the 100th conceded in the league by ‘The Fenmen’ who have a negative goal difference of 99.

Spalding remained top of Division One as Connor Allen claimed a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Pelicans. Stuart Cunnington also netted.

Spalding could clinch promotion this weekend as they are in action twice against lowly opposition. It’s Brentwood away on Saturday and Spalding at home on Sunday.
