Darren Jarvis has described the double dismissal of himself and his Peterborough Northern Star co-manager Michael Goode as ‘horribly unfair’. The pair were sacked less than 48 hours after steering their side into the semi-finals of the Hinchingbrooke Cup. Star remain in two cup competitions and look set to record their highest United Counties Premier Division finish since Jarvis and Goode took over in December 2012. Star are currently seventh.

Star managing director Tony Zirpolo stated that he wasn’t satisfied with the club’s progess under his management team - and that was like a red rag to a bull for Jarvis who leapt to his own defence.

Jarvis said: “I was sacked in a phone call with director of football Dom Genevose. At least I received a call because Michael hasn’t had the courtesy of any contact with the club as yet.

“I was stunned to be honest and the reasons he gave were laughable. He said the Star Academy hadn’t progressed which is bizarre because that’s his job. He said we hadn’t used enough young local players when nearly all the team live within 10 miles of the ground.

“He also said that we didn’t train often enough and yet I can only remember two weeks in the last two years when we didn’t put on a session.

“It’s horribly unfair what has happened. When we came to the club we were told to keep them out of relegation trouble, but we’ve done better than that and we’ve reached two cup semi-finals.

“The club apparently want to be promoted within two seasons, but they are making no progess whatsoever off the field despite bringing people in specifically to increase revenue. The only progess they had made was on the field, even though we only had a mid-table budget.”

Players Tom Roberts and Johnny Clay were in charge of Star’s 1-0 win over Newport Pagnell last weekend.

Genovese and f ormer Huntingdon boss Seb Hayes were in charge of last night’s game at Huntingdon.
