Firefighters had to be withdrawn from property
A bungalow was destroyed by a fire caused by a gas cylinder used during maintenance work. The home in St Margaret’s Road, Fletton, became so unstable on Tuesday afternoon that fire crews tackling the blaze from inside the property had to be removed.
Fortunately, the residents of the bungalow were safely out of the property when the fire developed, and ambulance crews were not needed.
Station commander Ady Slack said: “The bungalow has been destroyed by fire and is now structurally un- sound. The fire was fully developed when we arrived and the crews did a superb job to prevent the fire spreading to next door.
“We also had to withdraw our crews who started tackling the fire from inside the property when the bungalow becamestructurallyunsound.
“The fire started on the outside of the property at the back and spread rapidly into the roof and took hold.
“The homeowners were carrying out maintenance work using an LPG cylinderpowered device that unfortunately resulted in the fire starting.”
Fire crews f rom Stanground, Whittlesey, Dogsthorpe and Thorney were called to the bungalow at just before 6pm with the fire already developed.
They used jets, hose reels and hydrants to extinguish the fireandsetupawatercurtain to protect aneighbouring property.
The fire was extinguished by 8.30pm and all crews had returned to their stations by 10.20pm. Thecause of the fire was accidental. An inquest into the deaths of a father, mother and daughter fromMoultonafter agunattackwasopened and adjourned yesterday.
Lance Hart (57), wife Claire (48) and youngest child Charlotte (19), all of Hatt Close, died in a shooting outside Castle Sports Complex, Spalding, last Tuesday morning.
No surviving members of the Hartfamily attended the inquest openingatBoston Coroner’s Court.
It was revealed that Lance Hart shot his wife and daughter with a shotgun before shooting himself in the head.
Paul Cooper, senior coroner for South Lincolnshire, adjourned the inquest until October 19.
He asked police to find out how a shotgun was obtained by Mr Hart.
