City scullers in fine form at the Summer Regatta

Peterborough City Rowing Club’s scullers were in terrific form when the club hosted their annual Summer Regatta at the weekend.

The hosts achieved 19 winson home water at Thorpe Meadows and17 of them came from the scullers.

Leading the way with a hattrick of victories were junior James Toynton and veteran Jack Ward.

Toynton joined forces with Alex Leverage and the combination which struck gold at the British Junior Championships last month once again came up trumps.

They won the J14A double sculls on both days - over 1,000 mon Saturday and 500m on Sunday-andToynt on completed his treble with a win in the J14 singles sculls on Saturday as well.

Ben Mackenzie was first to record a win for City on Saturday when taking the J15A single sculls and Tom Nash continued his excellent runof form by storming to victory in the J16 single sculls.

Completing a good first day for the junior squad, Hannah Chatfield claimed the Women’s J18 singles spoils with eight seconds to spare.

In the senior races a close contest between Peterborough City’s international rower Camilla Plumb and Ardingly sculler Dickens ended with Plumb crossing the line just one second clear in the Women’s Elite single sculls final.

Saturday’s remaining wins came from the Masters squad.

Tim Lloyd and Keith Blackman won the Masters E doubles, closely followed by clubmates Steve Hodge and Michael Marshall, and then Tim Ellis and Jack Ward took the honours in the Masters D doubles.

Ward went on to win the Masters E single sculls by eight seconds before Jo Canton and Hayley Marsters rounded the day off with victory in the Women’ s Masters D four sin a composite crew with Nottingham and the British Airways Rowing Club.

There was further success for the club’s golden oldies on Sunday.

The Masters rowers provided five of the club’s wins over the shorter distance.

Steve Cranfield and Ian Palmer won the Masters B/C doubles with three seconds to spare over Bradford opposition in the final and then Ellis and Ward both added single sculling pots to their doubles win from Saturday.

Ellis won the Masters D cat- egory and Ward’s triumph in the Masters E race gave him a regatta treble.

Also adding to their Saturday wins were Lloyd and Blackman, winning the Masters E doubles.

In the Women’s Masters E doubles, Joan Heat hand Anita Carter were able to improve on their second place from Saturday by winning both their heat and the final.

Mackenzie picked up his second win of the weekend when partnering Harry Masterson to victory in the open Novice doubles and completing a highly successful weekend for City, two junior quads emerged victorious.

They were Jordan Beale, Megan Stoker, Rohan Khosla and Thomas Marshall in the IM3 quads and Emilia Drew, Molly Hodson, Alexis Agidee and Olivia Hutchinson in the Women’s Novice coxless quads.

A total of 350 races took place over the two days with clubs from as far south as Totnes and as far north as Newcastle taking part.

Joan Heath and Anita Carter were Peterborough City winners on Sunday.

James Toynton and Alex Leverage won the J14 doubles sculls on both days.
