Phantoms sledgers celebrate another British League win
The Peterborougb Phantoms sledge hockey team are celebrating a fourth consecutive British League title triumph.
After winning their final away match of the season at Kingston Kestrels in Hull, the city side took on Cardiff Huskies at Planet Ice in a title decider.
And, spurred on by a large crowd, the Phantoms ran out handsome 5-1 winners to retain the Reddes League Cup.
Goals were scored by Scotty Turner with an assist from Kieran O’Meara and Gary Farmer, who scored four goals, assisted by Kieran O’Meara and Matt Coleman. Man-ofthe-match for Phantoms was netminder Rob Gaze.
Captain Coleman said: “It’s an amazing feeling to win the game, but more importantly to win the Red d es League Cup again for the fourth time.
“I knew we had assembled one of the best squads ever for this club, but I also knew all the other clubs had improved, and they pushed us right to the very last game, soit’s a credit to everyone.
“I want to thank everyone for their support-our sponsors Irwin Mitchell and Inspire Peterborough, Planet Ice and their staff as well as everyone who helps us behind the scenes. This cup is dedicated to them.”
Sledge hockey is a Paralympic sport and is set to feature in the 2017 Invictus Games. Disabled and able- bodied players can enjoy the sport together, with the only exceptions being the Paralympics and Invictus Games.
