Marketing might sell more seats

I am writing with an interest and a concern that the performing arts is not appreciate­d by the general public within the Peterborou­gh area.

Having gained tickets to see Joseph & the AmazingTec­h- nicolour Dreamcoat back in January 2016 at The Broadway Theatre, it was just two weeks before the performanc­e and we were able to purchase five front row tickets.

Whilst we felt very privileged at seeing such an amazing show so close to the stage, I was very disappoint­ed to find that the auditorium was not even close to being sold out. During the same tour, I was fortunate to this show a gain in two other cities but I had difficulty getting seats because they were almost sold out.

Equally, when I went to see Mad About The Musicals starring Gareth Gates at The Cresset during the summer, it was disappoint­ing to see the tiered seats closed off and the seats within the stalls very almost empty!

Is it any surprise that few well-known names come to Peterborou­gh to perform when we are not filling seats in a theatre?

In Peterborou­gh we have several theatres and a purpose built arena however I do not believe we use these to their full potential. Part of the reason for this is a lack of advertisin­g.

Social media creates an interest and it is something which a high percentage of the population have access too.

Why am I not seeing shows that are happening in the local area appearing on my news feed on social media?

I realise that it would be easy for me to raise these issues, however I am willing to help improve them too. I am a soletrader for local drama classes so I understand the effective methods of adver--
