EX-POSH COACH FACES 65 CHILD SEX CHARGES
Former youth team boss accused of historic abuse of teenage boys:
A former Peterborough United youth team manager has been charged with indecently assaulting a number of teenage boys.
Bob Higgins, who was youth team boss at London Road between May 1995 and April 1996, will appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court later this month in relation to the historic charges.
Higgins (64), joined Posh after working for Southampton, and continued to live on the south coast while working in Peterborough.
A spokesman for Hampshire police said: “Robert Francis Higgins, of Litchfield Road, Southampton, has been charged with a total of 65 counts of indecent assault.
“These offences relate to allegations involving teenage boys and are alleged to have happened in the 1980s and 1990s.
“There is a total of 23 alleged victims.”
The spokesman confirmed all the charges relate to allegations in the Hampshire area, and do not include any from Cambridgeshire.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said Hampshire police were leading the investigation.
Higgins will appear in court for a first hearing on Thursday, July 20.
