Ballet Stars of the Future perform Coppélia

English Youth Ballet will present its charming production of Coppélia at the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre from

14 – 15 July. The ballet will star internatio­nal principal dancers – Samantha Camejo, Adele Robbins, Monica Tapiador, Amy Drew, Phillip Tunstall, Brenden Bratulic and Trevor Wood. All the soloist and corps de ballet roles in the production will be performed by 70 of the most talented dancers (aged 8 – 18) from the region The comical story of Coppélia follows the escapades of the dreamy Franz and how he falls in love with a beautiful, life-like doll. The doll – Coppélia – is created by the eccentric, yet mysterious inventor, Dr Coppelius. The hilarious plot thickens when Franz’s jealous lover, Swanhilda, takes her friends on an adventure into the spooky house of the mad inventor to confront her rival. Of course, the story ends happily after the truth is uncovered. The whole town joins the most extravagan­t wedding celebratio­n for the English Youth Ballet held a huge audition for the ballet at the Corn Exchange Theatre in March. Nearly 250 young hopeful dancers turned up to the 2 auditions which were held on the stage. The atmosphere at the theatre was electric with nerves and excitement. The lucky dancers heard they had been accepted on the day. The profession­al principal dancers have joined English Youth Ballet from some of the world’s most renowned ballet companies – including the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, National Ballet of Por tugal and Ballet de Toulouse. The choreograp­hy is adapted from Arthur Saint-Léon’s exquisite original.The adaptation has been created by Director Miss Janet Lewis and her team of internatio­nal principal artists who coach the young dancers. Award-winning English Youth Ballet has helped many of the UK’s top talent springboar­d their training progress and careers into some of the world’s greatest ballet companies – including the Royal Ballet Company and English National Ballet.
