Thomas Weekend

-

Nene Valley Railway, July 8/9 Wansford station will be transformed into a very special place. You’ll see lots of familiar characters, and Thomas fans can expect plenty of fun with the superstar engine doing what he does best, meeting and greeting his friends! Thomas will be hauling trains through the Tunnel to Yarwell and can also be seen in action around Wansford. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: LIMITED EDITION Second Sight, cert 15 Blu-ray Steelbook £22.99 BACK in 1979 the least desres in America’s wealthy Long Island shocked all who crossed its threshold to behold a ‘true story’ house of horrors.

Original reviews were mixed, but word of mouth from those terrified by its scream-outloud delights, soon turned it into a ‘must see.’ It was based on a book about George and Kathy Lutz (James Brolin and Margot Kidder) buying their dream home (why is it so cheap and still empty?) – only to suffer big time buyer’s remorse when they discover the previous owner had butchered his family. The creeky old building certainly has iconic features, like black goo spewing out of the loo, the bleeding walls, green slime oozing out of keyholes, things going bang and crash in the night, and that’s before we get to the swarms of flies! The sinister atmosphere builds throughout as George and Kathy attempt to tame the house that seems to be screaming ‘Get out!’ and turn the place into a loving home for their kids. But things get so bad they convince Father Delaney (Rod Steiger) to overcome his own dread of the place to carry out an exorcism. Hmm, great idea but the priest soon runs screaming. This is a great package for Amityville fans with a re-mastered Blu-ray picture and sound, lots of interviews and other extras.

Which superhero’s girlfriend did Margot play? Entries to Alex Gordon, Amityville competition by July 13.
