Sarah Crosby (38) took the plunge from 13,000 feet at Sibson airfield last Saturday as a thank you to the lifesavers at Magpas who airlifted her husband Ben to Addenbrooke’s Hospital on August 4 last year.

Ben (40) of Chatteris, who was working at a horse car- riage company, had his left foot crushed and dislocated and his pancreas split in half.

In addition, one of his kidneys failed, he had a fractured pelvis, two broken ribs and also suffered damage to his aorta and spleen.

He also needed extensive bowel surgery.

Sarah said: “Ben is getting there. He still has issues but he is back at work. He is regularly having physio appointments and his body is slowly healing itself.

“I’m amazed. Other people had car accidents and crash injuries less severe and did not survive. But the staff at Addenbrooke’s were amazing.”

Ben was loading a white hearse carriage onto a horse when the accident occurred.

Sarah said: “He was in intensive care for three weeks then put in an induced coma for a couple of days to try and fix his body.

“When you’re in A&E and the doctors turn around and say where the chapel is, you know something isn’t right.”

Sarah, who was joined by friend Roxanne Woolner (22) of Sawtry for the skydive, added: “The skydive was amazing! The views over Peterborough when you are freefalling at 120mph are absolutely stunning.”
