Five-star display of Posh finishing

-

It is of course silly to read too much into pre-season friendlies against spirited, yet obviously inferior, opposition.

But nine goals in two games is a most satisfactory start for a team with a chairman, as well as a fan base, who demand entertainment as well as success.

Posh certainly appear to have found some players who can finish against non-league opposition. #

Newcomers Ricky Miller, Danny Llloyd and Michael Doughty have all found the net in their opening 90 minutes of action, as has Junior Morias, who might not be a new signing, but who definitely has a new look.

So far so good then, although for a couple of minutes in the West Midlands on Tuesday night, Posh looked set for a shock defeat.

Two well-take goals in the opening 12 minutes from Morias and Miller prompted the team chosen for the first-half to ease back on the throttle with damaging consequences.

Posh conceded two goals to Billy Daniels before the break - one from the second penalty conceded in two games - and then another to Alex Henshaw midway through the second-half.

But the Posh response was immediate and impressive. Young Morgan Penfold quickly equalised before helping Tom Nichols shoot Posh back in front.

A high-class 20-yard strike into the top corner in the final minute from Doughty gave the final scoreline a more realistic look in favour of a Posh team who were denied three reasonable penalty claims.

Posh manager Grant McCann will tell everyone results don’t matter in the summer and he’s right, but winning any game breeds confidence.

There is still work to be done, most notably getting to grips with the ‘Chelsea’ defensive formation which appears to be the chosen way forwards.

Specialst wing-backs are required to make that work and so far teenager Lewis Freestone looks far more comfortable in the role than any other Posh player.
