A1 roadworks to restart
Road works on the A1 which were delayed after causing traffic chaos across Peterborough will return this month.
The works will take place on both the northbound and southbound carriageways at Wansford over the next few weeks. At the time of going to print, Highways England were unable to confirm the schedule, but it is believed on the southbound carriageway repairs will be carried out on ThursdayOctober26andfrom Monday October 30 to Friday November 3. The southbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am on these dates. The diversion is via A47, Nene Parkway, and Fletton Parkway to rejoin at A1(M) J17. On the northbound carriageway road repairs will take place on weeknights between Wednesday November 15 and Wednesday November 29. The northbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am on these dates. The diversion is via Fletton Parkway, Nene Parkway and A47 to rejoin the A1 northbound at Wansford. In June much of the Peterborough road network was brought to a standstill while the works were taking place. The issue was raised in Parliament by North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara who successfully got the works halted in the wake of the chaos. Mr Vara said he was confident lessons had been learned. He said: “Clearly these roadworks will cause disruption for motorists but it is good that Highways England has improved its planning process following the A1 (M) debacle earlier in the year.”
