Trust makes award shortlist
A Ramsey community project has been announced as one of 30 finalists in line to receive a national award in recognition of their work in making Ramsey a better place to live. ‘Ramsey Neighbourhood Trust’ (RNT) has been short listed in the ‘Best Community Group Contribution to Education or Employment’ category in the Groundwork Community Awards and will attend a national awards ceremony in central London next month. Groundwork, a national charity which works across the UK to support communities to change places and change lives, launched its awards earlier this year to honour small community groups making a difference to lives across the country, and to reward groups who often get little recognition. RNT specialises in community development with the aim of improving the lives of people living in the parish of Ramsey. They deliver ‘Phoenix Courses’ and Job Search projects based at the Ramsey Library, and the trust also offers services such as debt counselling. In the last 18 months, over 50 local people have gained employment through the service. Carol Aston, Chair of Ramsey Neighbourhoods Trust, said: “Ramsey Neighbourhoods Trust is thrilled to be recognised nationally by Groundwork. We run Job Search twice a week providing a tailor-made support/training service that includes access to employment, volunteering opportunities, C.V. and application writing, money management to support our unemployed residents in a rurally isolated community.” “Our very successful ‘Dog’s Meet’ community dog café gives our volunteers the chance to learn a variety of skills to prepare them for the job market. It is not unusual to have up to 30 well behaved dogs (and owners) enjoying a break and chatting and supporting each other.”
