Rathbone’s claims are ‘total rubbish’ says BSPA vice-chairman Godfrey

-

The man at the centre of the latest Panthers row - British Speedway Promoters’ Association vice-chairman Rob Godfrey - has issued an emphatic denial of Ged Rathbone’s claims.

Godfrey, who is promoter at SGB Championship side Scunthorpe, also revealed in a strongly-worded response that he has referred the matter back to the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB) for a further investigation

He told the Speedway Star magazine: “Ged Rathbone was charged by the SCB and he had the opportunity to go to the SCB and offer a defence. They listened to his defence, they charged him, and then placed a punishment on him.

“He went away, he had time to reflect and then he appealed to the ACU.

“Now, all of a sudden, it’s my fault, which is ironic, because the previous week, it was Buster Chapman’s fault.

“Maybe Ged Rathbone ought to look in the mirror when he’s trying to decide whose fault it is.

“I absolutely one billion per cent deny everything he’s said. It’s total rubbish. Did I let Jack Holder go? No. Did I get money from Torun? No. How is it my fault?

“My conscience is clear. As a result of all this, I have put the matter back in the hands of the SCB and I expect them to deal with it. They will be investigating.”

Chapman is the BSPA chairman.
