One of Peterborough’s claims to fame is that it is host to the secondlongest running Gang Show in the world.

This year will be the 80th anniversay of the show and tickets are now on sale at the Key Theatre.

It is unlikely that many members of the original cast are still alive but show organisers know of one and they are hoping Telegraph readers can help trace him.

Peter Ashpool, from the Peterbrough, show said: “It is 80 years since our very first Gang Show on 4th November 1937, however because of World War 2 and two years in the 60s this is our 70th show.’’

The show and the city’s newspapers have had a long association.

Peter added: “The Peterborough Telegraph and the old Citizen &Advertiser have been with us arm in arm all the way, something we should both be proud off.

“I really need some extra help and only the Peterborough Telegraph can help!

“I know that in January of this year there were two original members of the 1937 cast from The Whittlesey Scout Harmonica Band.

“Sadly one aged 92 passed away in March. The other one was Stan Henson whose last address was Maxey, but I have been unable to locate him(maybe he moved into sheltered home or with family).

“Could you put out an appeal for him in the Telegraph and for anyone from the 1937 Gang Show to get in touch with me on 01733759593?’’

The first Peterborough Gang Show was held at The Elwese Hall, Church Walk Peterborough,in 1937 and only Glasgow’s which began one year earlier has been running longer.
