Juicy derby between Star and Yaxley in the next round

-

At least one of the six local sides through to the last 128 of the FA Vase will make it into the third round.

Monday’s second round draw at Wembley Stadium produced a juicy local derby with Yaxley paired against Peterborough Northern Star.

The game will take place on November 11 when Deeping Rangers will be away to Godmanchester Rovers, Holbeach United will travel to Walsall Wood, Wisbech Town will visit Thetford Town or Debenham LC and Wisbech St Mary will entertain Norwich CBS.

Winning clubs in the second round will receive £900 and losing clubs will get £300 from the FA’s prize fund.

Pride of place in a cracking first round for local clubs went to Wisbech Town who bashed runaway Eastern Counties Premier Division leaders Felixstowe & Walton 4-0 at the Fenland Stadium with strikes by Alex Beck, Jon Fairweather, Michael Frew and an own goal.

The visitors have won 16 of 17 fixtures at a standard similar to the United Counties Premier Division, but they were blown away by Gary Setchell’s rampant home side.

Dan Cotton’s first-half goal was enough for Yaxley to win at Biggleswade United, while a strong first-half display from Deeping Rangers enabled them to triumph 3-1 at Bolsover FC with Scott Mooney, Scott Coupland and David Burton-Jones on target.

Dan Smith scored in the seventh minute for Northern Star against Baldock and that was enough for the city side to progress.

And one goal - scored by Spencer Tinkler - was enough for Holbeach United against South Normanton Athletic at Carter’s Park.

Wisbech St Mary beat fellow Eastern Counties Division One side Whitton United 2-1.

Holbeach will be looking for revenge at Midlands Division One Walsall Wood, who knocked them out 4-1 at the same stage two years ago .

Deeping, Yaxley and Bourne were all cup winners on Tuesday night.

Deeping won 3-2 at Northampton Sileby Rangers in the first round of the Hinchingbrooke Cup thanks to goals by Scott Coupland (2)and Scott Mooney and in the same competition Yaxley edged it 1-0 at home to Netherton United with a goal by Danny Emmington.

Bourne were 3-1 winners against Sleaford Town in the quarter-finals of the Lincs Senior Trophy thanks to goals from Jezz Goldson-Williams (2) and Richard Nelson and will now meet Holbeach United in the semi-final.
