‘No interest whatsoever’ in Bonne says Darragh

-

Peterborough United have, according to reports, shown an interest in Leyton Orient striker Macauley Bonne.

A source close to the player contacted the Peterborough Telegraph insisting Posh have watched the 21 year-old.

But Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said on Twitter that the club ‘had shown no interest whatsoever’.

Bonne has scored seven goals in the National League for Orient in 16 outings this season, but none in his last eight appearances.

Posh are also rumoured to be interested in Solihull Moors striker Oladapo Afolayan. He’s scored seven times for the team bottom of the National League.

Afolayan was a Chelsea trainee. Premier League sides Swansea and Leicester were reported to be be interested in the 20 year-old last season.

Branded relegation candidates before a ball had been kicked, they turn up at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday top of the table and unbeaten in 15 matches. They’ve won 11 of them, the last a 1-0 last-gasp win over Fleetwood last weekend. They’ve also won away from home at Wimbledon, Gillingham, Oldham and Doncaster, but they’ve drawn their last two away games at Walsall and Plymouth. Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst doesn’t have much in common with Pep Guardiola, but they are the only two (of 92) unbeaten managers in league action this season. Hurst was a left-back at Rotherham United before cutting his managerial teeth at Boston United. He left Boston to take Grimsby into the Football League two seasons ago and left Grimsby to save Shrewsbury from relegation from League One last season. They were still in danger of relegation on the final day of last season. “We’ve made tremendous strides this season,” Hurst enthused. “To have so many points at this stage of the season is ridiculous really.” Shrewsbury didn’t reach 30 League One points until February last season.
