Fly-tipper dumped microwave and waste in city
A fly-tipper who dumped bags of waste, a microwave and even the shell of a washing machine in Peterborough has been sentenced in court.
Susan Earridge (53)of St Michael’s Gate, Parnwell, admitted fly-tipping the pile of rubbish at Kilham, Orton Goldhay, in Peterborough in June last year.
She appeared at Peterborough Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday) where she was given a 12 month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. Colin Miles, prosecuting, told the court: “Enforcement officers examined the rubbish, and found the address of the defendant. She was interviewed in August, where she admitted dumping some of the bags and the items.” A fixed penalty notice of £300 was sent to Earridge, but she never paid after moving house - and when she became aware a warrant had been issued she handed herself into police at Thorpe Wood Police Station last Thursday.
The court was told because Peterborough Magistrates’ Court does not sit on Thursdays, she was taken to Cambridge Magistrates’ Court instead, where she spent much of the day in the cells. Sharon Lewis, defending, said she had handed herself in as soon as she knew she was wanted. Magistrates said they took into account the time Earridge spent in custody at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court, as well as her guilty plea, which was made at the first opportunity.
