Peterborough heavyweight Richard Ellison turned in his best performance to date at a show in Lincoln at the weekend.

The 32 year-old police officer, who fights for the Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club, took on home favourite Shep Waby at the Bracebridge ABC annual dinner show and they produced an exciting allaction scrap.

But it was Ellison who held the upperhand throughout and he emerged with a deserved points win.

Peterborough Police coach Chris Baker said: “It was a fantastic heavyweight contest.

“Richie was up against it from the start. Waby was a much more experienced fighter and was meant to be some sort of White Collar phenomena who was unbeaten and who had a reputation for being a slugger and a banger in the unlicensed boxing world.

“Well Richie boxed the pants off this guy.

“He was the taller fighter and really found his range and target from the start, using his ram rod jab to work his way into the body.

“Richie mixed it up with combinations of hooks to the body and head, then coming in at different angles.

“This performance really did show that Richie is a quality, very fast heavyweight and that the unlicensed world is no match for being taught by quality coaches in a registered England boxing club.”

Imran Aref (17) from Millfield was also in action for Peterborough Police at the show.

He boxed C. Green from the host club at 64kg and looked to have done enough for victory.

He was the aggressor in all three rounds and landed the cleaner shots but lost on a split decision.

All Peterborough Police boxers will be in action at the club’s home show on December 16 at the Queen Catherine Academy.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are available on the door but to avoid disappointment get tickets from boxers or Chris on 07921095122.
