Taylor picked for the Europeans

-

Despite a disappointing run in the trials at Liverpool, Nene Valley Harrier Charlotte Taylor has been selected for the European Cross-Country Championships in Slovakia next weekend.

The talented 23-yearold, a World Championship 10,000m finalist this year, has obviously been chosen by the England selectors on the back of her outstanding form on the USA college circuit this season.

It will be Taylor’s first senior cross-country outing for her country. ■ Peterborough Athletic Club picked up a handful of awards at the annual Cambridgeshire Athletics presentation night on Friday.

Karim Chan received the junior field performance award for winning gold in the long jump at the World Para Championships and Daniel Mees (800m) and Elizabeth Taylor (300m) received County Championship best performance trophies.

The club also collected the Cambs AA Road League award (Kirk Brawn, Steve Hall and Ben Heron) and Mees and Nichola Gibson collected awards for representing Cambridgeshire during three seasons or on six occasions.

Gibson was also recognised for her hard work as statistician alongside Colin Pettit, who will continue in his role as general secretary.

■ Brad Spurdens of Nene Valley Harriers was second in his 600m race at the Sheffield Indoor Open in 1:26.01 and Nene Valley Under 15 pair Jose Downer (8.56)and William Kong (7.47) both recorded 60m personal bests at the Lee Valley Indoor Open.
