Deja Vu for unlucky Peterborough Sports

-

It was a case of deja vu for Peterborough Sports last weekend as they lost by a single goal for the eighth time this season in Division One South of the Evo Stik League.

And they suffered another injury blow as star man Josh Moreman limped out of the action at half-time against Leek Town at PSL with a calf injury.

Sports were level at that time after Ollie Medwynter’s fine 13th-minute volley was cancelled out before the break. Leek scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win just before the hour mark and then defended their penalty area well for the final 30 minutes.

Sports huffed and puffed, but couldn’t break the visitors down. Substitute Avelino Vieira headed the best opportunity wide of a post.

“We got going too late,” moaned Sports boss Jimmy Dean. It doesn’t get any easier for his side as sixth-placed Frickley Athletic are the visitors to PSL this Saturday.

Sports are six points clear of the one relegation slot.

Wisbech are the sole FA Vase survivors of the local United Counties League sides. Their reward for a 2-0 win at Racing Club Warwick is a home tie in the last 32 against either Coventry United or Bromsgrove Sporting of the Midlands Football League, who were replaying last night (Wednesday), on January 6.

Yaxley lost 3-2 at home to Norwich CBS after conceding three first-half goals and Deeping Rangers were beaten 3-1 at Hinckley United.

Deeping have a big game in the UCL Premier Division on Saturday when travelling to leaders Newport Pagnell.

Struggling Peterborough Northern Star are at home to Kirby Muxloe.
