MacAnthony reveals cost of promotion push

-

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has backed the current Posh promotion push to the tune of £1.4 million.

MacAnthony revealed he will splash out £100,000 on loan striker Omar Bogle’s wages for the rest of the season. Bogle has started just one game since arriving from Championship promotion contenders Cardiff City.

He also spent £350,000 to sign midfielder George Cooper from Crewe and £100,000 to bring Joe Ward to the ABAX from non-league Woking in January.

MacAnthony’s other spending since last summer includes £450,000 on Jack Marriott, and £50,000 on Alex Penny as well as ‘big money’ on Steven Taylor’s wages and ‘decent money’ on Michael Doughty’s wages.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond’s loan fee/wages from Reading were also considerable and star man Marcus Maddison was handed an improved contract in August when it was thought he would be sold.

“That sort of outlay is why I expect us to challenge for the top six at the very least,” MacAnthony stated. “All the talk of us ‘working miracles to be where we are’ is nonsense.”

MacAnthony did offer his support to Grant McCann over the weekend, but it’s widely understood the manager’s position will come under scrutinty if Posh miss out on the League One play-offs for the second season in a row under his care.

Posh finished 11th last season with 62 points, missing the play-offs by 11 points.
