It looks easy for the Lions but it’s a tough test for Borough

Promotion-chasing Peterborough Lions should extend their winning streak to an impressive nine games on Saturday.

The city side entertain rockbottom Old Halesonians at Solstice Park, Bretton (3pm) in their latest Midlands Premiership fixture and a landslide victory is very much on the cards.

The visitors from Hagley in Worcestershire have lost all of their 20 matches this season, most of them heavily, and conceded a massive 1,238 points.

The Lions won the away fixture 90-0 back in November.

But Lions director of rugby Simon Moyle insists his side won’t be taking anything for granted.

“It doesn’t matter who the opposition are, we will treat them with respect,” he said.

“Old Hales might be struggling this season but we will still need to work at it to get a result. Nothing comes easy at this level and I do know Old Hales won’t be travelling all that way to throw the towel in early.”

While the Lions are ex- pected to bank a maximum five points, Newport - their biggest rivals for runners-up spot and the promotion playoff place - might not get any. They’re away to league leaders Birmingham.

The Lions East Midlands Cup semi-final against Kettering last weekend was called off because Kettering couldn’t raise a aside.

While the Lions are on a roll, Borough are going through a bad spell in Midlands Division One.

They’ve lost their last four games and will do well to stop the rot on Saturday when Paviors arrive at Fengate.

The Nottingham side have only lost one of their last 10 games and included in that run was a notable 45-24 victory over table-topping Bedford Athletic.

And Paviors haven’t just been winning, they’ve been crushing opponents. They beat Melton Mowbray 52-3, Market Rasen 62-3, Leighton Buzzard 62-5, Huntingdon 7410 and Bugbrooke 82-3.

Borough Ladies won their top-of-the-table league clash against second-placed Mellish from Nottingham 17-0 at Fengate on Sunday through tries by Michelle Bark, Becky Vaughan and skipper Mel Fulcher. Sarah Ashton and Jennifer Sothmann were chosen as back and forward of the match respectively.
