Fundraiser through £50k barrier
Werrington mum Maggie Mooney has seen her latest fundraising effort take her total to more than £50,000 in just over six years. Maggie, 53, staged her seventh charity ball in aid of the Addenbrooke’s Hospital in November last year, which raised £6,500.
She presented a cheque for the amount to the hospital team recently - which took the total she has raised to £54,000 since 2011.
It is a remarkable achievement given that Maggie had a lifesaving liver transplant in May 2011 at Addenbrookes and just six months later staged her first ball in a suite at the Peterborough United’s London Road ground.
“Thank you so much for helping me raise money for the Liver Perfusion Appeal at Addenbrooke’s Hospital,” Maggie told supporters who attended and donated raffle and auction prizes. Your generous support at the Christmas Charity Ball in 2017 raised an incredible £6,500.
“I was honoured that Professor Watson and his wife attended the ball and spoke about how important the Liver Perfusion Machine is, and how this will mean more liver transplants can take place at Addenbrooke’s every year.
“This year (2018) marks the 50th anniversary of the first liver transplant taking place at Addenbrooke’s . Sir Roy Calne, performed this pioneering operation, and 50 years later Addenbrooke’s is still leading the way in liver transplants.
“2018 also marks a special celebration for me, as I reached the amazing fundraising total of £54,000.
“This would not have been possible without all the support, donations of raffle prizes and auction prizes. Thank you all so much for your kind and generous support.
“I am currently planning my 2018 Christmas ball and I hope you will continue to support me.”
