New co-owners have a plan to make Posh great again
Peterborough United’s new co-owners are at the club for the long haul.
News that long-standing Poshchairman Darragh MacAnthony had sold half of the club to Canadian-based investors came as a shock to a fanbase already getting their head round a change of manager.
But the new co-owners Dr Jason Neale and Stewart ‘Randy’ Thompson, who purchased their shares through a new company Kelgary Sports and Entertainment, were quick to allay any fears about their intentions.
A three-to-five year plan was immediately made public with the headline ambitions involving buying the football ground back from Peterborough City Council and Championship football.
However it won’t be a case of new owners flooding the club with new money.
Dr Neale said: “Of course a big part of the plan is to get back into the Championship.
“We’d like to do it as soon as possible, but we are conscious of not working in a vacuum here. Other clubs will be competing for the same.
“We are limited by financial fairplay in what we can do financially and we are also capped in terms of the investment we can make, but the best way to improve the playing staff is to increase the revenue as that increases the level of funding we can provide.
“We are certainly not treating it as a hobby. This will be a full-time activity for us. Myself and Stewart have a great record of helping businesses grow financially.”
MacAnthony will remain as Posh chairman and all parties insisted the deal does not mark the beginning of the end of an 11-year reign at the club.
“Because of his passion for the club I can’t imagine Darragh going anywhere,” Thompson added.
