Peterborough Town’s team re-building for 2018 is now complete.

Vansh Bajaj, a 22 year-old middle order batsman who is part of the Cambridge MCCU (Marylebone Cricket Club Universities) squad, has signed for the summer.

Bajaj is a student at Anglia Ruskin who is keen to make his first-class debut for the University side this summer.

He’s an Indian from New Delhi who originally came into the UK on a cricket sponsorship at Ellesmere College.

Town have also signed Leicestershire first-class player Rob Sayer and Ramsey seam bowler Mark Edwards to replace departed professionals Joe Dawborn (Eaton Socon) and Paul McMahon (retired).

Sayer, an off-spinning allrounder, was a Peterborough Town regular until catching the eye of Leicestershire.

Batting star Asim Butt has also re-signed as Town attempt to win their first Northants Premier Division title since 2014.

Matt Milner (Ketton) and Kieron Jones (Oundle) have returned to the club, while teenage talent Danyaal Malik has also arrived at Bretton Gate from Oundle.

“Vansh has played a good standard of cricket in Shropshire as well as in Cambridge,” Town captain David Clarke stated.

“He is keen to play some first-class cricket this summer and he believes playing in the Northants League Premier Division will help him achieve that.

“We’re delighted to have him and the squad is looking very healthy now.”

Town open their Premier Division season at home to Wollaston on April 21.

Before then Town have friendlies at Grantham on April 8 and at Kibworth on April 14. ■ Peterborough Town CC are hosting an Easter junior coaching camp on Wednesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 12 (9.30am-4pm) at their Bretton Gate base.

It’s available for children aged 6-15 (up to school year 10) and the cost is £20 per day or £35 for both days. There is also a morning option for under 9s which will run to 12.30 and cost £10.
