Marriott’s class is pushing Posh towards promotion

-

Jack Marriott’s goal-scoring prowess is setting Posh apart from most teams in League One this season.

Posh have been involved in many tight matches, and outplayed in more than a few, but other teams don’t have a predator of Marriott’s class. Time and time again the Posh top scorer, aided and abetted by his partner in crime Marcus Maddison, has proved the difference between a draw and victory or even a defeat and a draw.

Marriott’s 90th-minute goal at Gigg Lane, a quality lob following a splendid pass from Maddison, rather illustrated the point. If Bury had 28-goal Marriott in their side, they’d probably have won this game, but instead Posh relied on their defensive strength and the hope that one chance would fall to their ace finisher to propel them into the top six.

This was a steal by Posh. They played okay in the first-half, but were largely dominated by the home side in the second period, but half chances came and went for Bury and as result they remained root- ed to the bottom. In contrast Posh appear to be upwardly mobile under new manager Steve Evans who promised to improve his team’s game management and their habit of conceding late goals and has proved to be a man of his word.

Two wins in two games under Evans have included three late goals of their own and renewed confidence of promotion.
