POSH ISSUE A BIG CHALLENGE TO THEIR RIVALS
Posh latest - Can Steve Evans’ men stay in the top six?
Perfect Peterborough United manager Steve Evans believes his side have thrown down the gauntlet to the rest of the League One play-off contenders.
Two wins in the first two matches of Evans’ regime shot Posh into the play-off places for the first time in 2018.
Now the challenge is to stay there and Evans is backing his boys to deliver, as long as they maintain the high standards of discipline they showed during the wins over Charlton and Bury.
“We might get outplayed occasionally, but we must never get outfought,” Evans declared.
“That’s the attitude that has enabled us to win the last two games and we have to maintain it for the rest of the season.
“If we do that we have a great chance because the ability we have in the squad will always shine through.
“The challenge for us is to stay in the top six and the challenge for the rest of the contenders is to overtake us.
“They won’t find it easy. There is a determination in our dressing room that is quite inspiring.”
Posh head to managerless Oxford United on Saturday seeking a fourth successive win.
They will again travel to the game without David Oldfield, the assistant manager to previous boss Grant McCann.
Oldfield has yet to formally depart the club, but there appears to be no role for him now as Evans uses his long-term ally Paul Raynor to coach the first team.
