It’s catch-up time for Yaxley’s big rivals in the chase to become United Counties League Premier Division champions.

The Cuckoos have played two or three games more than their closest challengers and will take a rest for a week while others attempt to knock them off their perch.

Second-placed Wisbech face a crunch home clash against third-placed Newport Pagnell on Saturday and then travel to Leicester Nirvana on Tuesday.

Holbeach, who are fifth, were in action last night at home to Northampton Sileby Rangers and then travel to Daventry Town on Saturday.

And finally Deeping Rangers, who moved up to fourth with a goalless draw at home to Eynesbury Rovers on Tuesday night, are at home to Harborough Town on Saturday.

Three of the local sides involved in the title challenge hit six goals on Saturday.

Yaxley were at home to Desborough Town and Tom Waumsley hit a hat-trick in their 6-0 win. Dan Cotton (2) and Kyle Nolan were the other players on target.

Holbeach were also 6-0 winners at home to Oadby and their goal-getters were George Zuerner, Luke Avis (2), Charley Sanders (2) and Lewis Leckie.

And Deeping beat Wellingborough Town 6-2 with goals by Scott Mooney (2), Scott Coupland, Michael Stimpson, Daniel Flack and Sam Hollis.

Wisbech didn’t hit a six, but they were still comfortable winners. They won 3-0 against Cogenhoe with second-half strikes by Alex Beck, Adam Millson and debutant Josh Davison.

Completing a super Saturday for the local contingent, Peterborough Northern Star chalked up a 1-0 win at Wellingborough Whitworth thanks to a Craig Rook goal from a Wayne Morris freekick in the 62nd minute.
