The Hampton Day Nursery, part of Busy Bees Childcare, celebrated receiving NHS Startwell recognition for its menus by holding a tasting session with children, staff and parents.

Children and parents have enjoyed a selection of dishes, all freshly prepared by the nursery’s chefs, including vegetable and bean burritos, lentil scones and homemade chocolate and blueberry brownies.

Heidi Cassidy, Nursery Manager, said: “I’m delighted that the nursery’s long standing commitment to encouraging a healthy start in life has been recognised by the NHS Startwell.

“Getting parents to sample some of the dishes on the menu, and sharing the recipes, is a great way to promote well balanced diet and home cooking.’

Gemma Gill, Consultant and Nutritionist at NHS Startwell, said: “The Startwell menu accreditation sets out guidelines to help plan and prepare meals that create a healthy environment for young children.

“It was great to work with Busy Bees, its new summer menu will provide the children in its care with the nutrients and minerals needed to fuel their energy, help stimulate their curiosity, and give them a healthy beginning to their development.’
