This year the National Health Service is celebrating its 70th birthday. In Peterborough, the city has a unique NHS perspective thanks to former hospital porter and now paramedic Chris Porsz.

Chris’s photographs have seen him win national acclaim and he is, of course, a regular contributor to the Peterborough Telegraph with his popular Paramedic Paparazzo page.

Chris’s work gave him access to chronicle the life and times of his colleagues working in the NHS in Peterborough.

A few weeks back we featured some of those pictures, and today we spotlight some more.

Chris said: “The picture (top left) is from the late 70s it shows Ron, now deceased, who was a maintenance man at Peterborough District Hospital and sister Jayne Mayes who served for many years and resides in Stilton.

“All the black and white images are from the early eighties. The picture below shows Ken a porter moving rubbish in PDH basement.

“The pictures in the middle show the “End Low Pay’’ marches through Bridge Street led by ambulance man Mike Radford, now a law lecturer in Aberdeen. The nurse second from right is Jackie Blatchford, far right is Debbie Martin and far left is Angie Smith.

Chris continued: “Top left is Scottish nurse Anette suturing a railway worker’s head.

“Below that is a junior doctor with a patient.I wonder where she is now?

“The colour picture is of nurses giving a child his medicine on the children’s ward in mid seventies.

“The nurse at the autoclave machine (first picture bottom row)was Jane Aveling nee Loader and now deceased. Casualty Sister Bessie Bambridge is pictured in an ambulance and is now retired and living in Thorney. Radiographer Mick Crate is pictured looking at an X-ray. He is also now retired. The last picture shows Sister Bessie Cambridge suturing an arm laceration.’’

Many thanks to Chris for sharing these photographs .
