A man spotted filming a crash on a Peterborough parkway has been charged with carrying a stash of class A drugs in his car.

Officers were dealing with a two car crash on the Fletton Parkway which left a woman seriously injured at 5pm on Tuesday when they spotted a driver filming the accident scene using a mobile phone.

A police spokesman said: “The male was stopped and officers spoke to the male regarding the offence.”

The spokesman said that officers noticed what they thought was a smell of cannabis. The vehicle was searched by police under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act 1971,and officers found a firearm which they believed to be CS Gas, and two small tubs containing capsules, which are awaiting testing, and a substance suspected to be crack cocaine. Following a search of the male’s home address officers found £655 in cash, a large amino energy tub full of suspected cannabis, and officers also seized a number of mobile phones and a laptop.”

The 21-year-old man from Peterborough was subsequently arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of a firearm and the original driving offence of driving while using a mobile phone.

He was taken to Thorpe Wood Police Station for questioning, and was still in custody at the time of going to press.

The crash itself happened close to the Orton junction of the Fletton Parkway, and involved a Mini and a Fiat 500.

The female driver of the Mini suffered serious but not life threatening injuries, and was taken to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment. The road was blocked while emergency services worked at the scene, and there were long delays on the parkway, and on the A15 towards Yaxley as drivers tried to avoid the queues.
