Make a date for the diary and go along and join the City of Peterborough Youth Ensemble . . . and help them spread the music! The City of Peterborough Youth Ensemble (CPYE) is a music organisation, set up in 2012, to provide young musicians with the opportunity to take their musical study to the next level by playing with others.
It is aimed at students who are learning orchestral instruments that only come into their own when played together. CPYE is actively looking for new musicians to join the group for the start of the new school year in September.
Don’t miss out, go along and be a part of making great music! “With many schools experiencing tremendous pressure to cut ‘unnecessary spending’, and with music becoming one of the casualties, it is vital to the future musical health of our country to ensure that musical opportunities are readily available for every young musician,” said Ian Dobbs, Chairman of CPYE. “The only way that organisations like CPYE can survive and continue to offer musical opportunity, is through new members.
“We need to get the word out to encourage new members to join us and see for themselves that playing music together is fun and immensely satisfying.” CPYE meets on Thursday evenings, during school term time at Ken Stimpson Community School in Werrington.
CPYE is led by two experienced and enthusiastic local musicians, (Katherine Birtles and David Parsons), and currently runs two ensembles:
Junior Band – For schoolaged children, grades 1 – 3, or equivalent, on their instrument. Senior Band – For musicians up to age 19, grades 3+, or equivalent, on their instrument. Both bands play a wide variety of music to suit every taste, the key being to enjoy making great music together.
