The Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Paul Pogba is the worst value signing
Reaction to my latest columns...
Swanny, you’re the first name on my all time Peterborough Town team even though you only had two shots!
@bendyakhtar
I can’t recall a player so overrated as Paul Pogba, particularly one that signed for so much money. @philadlam
Neymar for £210m comes close to being the worst value transfer of all time.
@HolyTrinityPUFC
Juan Sebastian Veron or Robinho were bigger wastes of money than Paul Pogba.
@UTR1934
Joe Mourinho is a joke. @yeeleset
You still think England are certain to beat India? Derek Fowler
According to BBC stats, in Posh’s first two home games, goal attempts by the opposition teams have totalled 39. Sooner or later Posh will come up against a team with a striker who knows where the goal is. Having said that, this Posh team looks well balanced and will only improve.
@PoshboyAlan
Posh are playing the same football as Rotherham played when they won promotion from League One in the 201314 season under Steve Evans.
@southernbantam
The fluidity going forward is a huge difference at Posh. There is no back & sideways nonsense in this team. Early days, but you can see why there’s been a complete overhaul as strength & pace are vital to success. @Fig428 So far so predictable in the Premier League.
Too many games are attack v defence, too many games are too easy to call and there has been too much evidence already that our referees remain rubbish and will favour the better sides. Manchester City are so good they’ve become quite boring. Opponents like Huddersfield have become so fearful of a bashing they concentrate, unsuccessfully in this case, on damage limitation. Hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero (above) won’t have many easier games this season.
And how disappointing to see Mo Salah dive to win a crucial penalty for Liverpool at Crystal Palace. And how disappointing that our best referee Michael Oliver was conned. Imagine the outrage if Wilfried Zaha had acted like Salah at the other end.
STUPID SPORTING BEHAVIOUR
Snobby sports fans believe idiotic behaviour is the sole preserve of footballers. Well Ben Stokes and Alex Hales destroyed that theory and rugby union stars Danny Cipriani (above) and Chris Ashton also weighed in with actions so thick as to be barely believable. Both have just worked their way back into England squads after exile. Both still decided that acts of violent stupidity was the way to celebrate, Cipriani on a drunken night out and Ashton in a friendly match. Staggering really.
NO-ONE WATCHES THE LADIES
Lots of noise about Manchester United finally creating a ladies football side. Their first game was against Liverpool and only 800 turned up to watch despite heavy publicity. Cleary very few really care.
