Jennings (73) is the new club champion

Georgina Jennings was crowned Peterborou­gh Triathlon Club champion on Sunday at the age of 73!

The multi-titled veteran a world and European champion in 2017 - won the fourth and final race in the standard distance (swim 1800 yards, bike 30 miles, run 6.25 miles) ) club championsh­ip series at Oundle to take the title overall.

She was first lady home in a personal best 3:30:06 and that saw her beat Hannah Bassett to the ladies club championsh­ip.

Jennings said: “I’ve been at PACTRAC since 1992 and never won it before! So I’m thrilled to bits.”

The race winner was Mark Weathersby in a personal best 2:21:43 and that saw him take the men’s crown with a maximum 300 points.

Jonathan Arnold led out of the swim but Weathersby overtook him on the bike.

Weathersby was then caught by Jonny Hynes and the pair were neck and neck going into the run. But that’s where Weathersby pushed on to win by almost five minutes from Hynes (2:26:30 ) with Dave Thorrold (2:31:38) third .

Arnold finished eighth in 2:45:24 to take the junior title.

Sue Davys ................................... 143.672 ■ Three PACTRACers tackled the Ironman Copenhagen event on Sunday (swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles) and one of them - Terry Murphy gained a top-three placing in his age group.

Completing his first full Ironman, Murphy finished in 14:23:00 to take third place in the 70-74 age group.

Louise Alexander finished in 12:03:01 (age group 30th) and Barry Ryan in 12:21:58 (age group 235th).

■ PACTRAC’s Jonathan Ratcliffe swam the Kaiwi Channel from Molokai to Oahu in Hawaii on Sunday.

He became only the 61st person to complete the 29-mile swim solo and he did it in 14:09:00 - that’s an average of 29:12 minutes for each mile.
