Four wins a row for the 4th time

-

Posh have now won their first four Football League matches for the fourth time in the club’s history, but they’ve never made it five in a row.

Posh beat Plymouth (2-1), Bristol Rovers (4-1), Rotherham (2-1) and Northampton (4-1) to start last season, but drew game number five 0-0 at Doncaster. In the 2013-14 season Britt Assombalonga-inspired Posh beat Swindon (1-0), Notts County (4-2), Oldham (2-1) and Tranmere (5-0) before losing next time out 2-0 at home to Crawley.

And in the 1961-62 season Posh beat Hull (3-2), Watford (3-2), Port Vale (1-0) and Watford (4-3) before losing 4-3 to Bristol City at London Road. All three runs took place in the third tier and none led to promotion. For the second successive season Plymouth are enduring a slow start to their League One campaign. They’ve drawn both of their home games so far 1-1, against Southend and Wycombe, but lost both of their away matches at Walsall and Coventry. Argyle have scored just three goals and start Saturday’s match inside the bottom four.

Plymouth did win at Championship side Bristol City in the first round of the Carabao Cup. It’s fair to say Plymouth manager Derek Adams and Posh boss Steve Evans are not bosom buddies. When Evans was managing Mansfield aginst Plymouth in a League Two match last season he was irritated by Adams apparently claiming ‘he was the best manager outside the Premier League.’ “He always talks nonsense,” Evans stated on that occasion. Adams reply was curt and cutting: “Steve is one of these guys who talks a lot and tells a few fibs along the way.” Adams is a hero at Home Park though after leading the Pilgrims to promotion from League Two and organising a thrilling run from the bottom of League One to a seventh-placed finish last season.
